Engineering Manager

We are a confidential, lean product startup (sourced via Arc) looking for an Engineering Manager to own our architecture end-to-end and lead a small, high-output team. You'll manage two mid-level engineers while remaining hands-on with our Python/Django/FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL data layer, and full AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, Secrets Manager). We also run Elasticsearch for search and Redis/Celery for async processing, with a React frontend. The founder provides clear direction and expects efficient execution without unnecessary bureaucracy — this is a great fit for someone who wants real ownership and an AI-augmented workflow (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) baked into how the team ships.

Responsibilities

  • - Own end-to-end architecture for the product's backend and infrastructure
  • - Manage and mentor two mid-level engineers
  • - Build and maintain Python/Django/FastAPI services and PostgreSQL data models
  • - Operate and evolve full AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, Secrets Manager)
  • - Maintain Elasticsearch search infrastructure and Redis/Celery async task pipelines
  • - Drive adoption of AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) across the team
  • - Collaborate directly with the founder on technical direction and prioritization

Requirements

  • - 8+ years of production software engineering experience
  • - 3+ years of engineering management or team lead experience
  • - Strong hands-on experience with Python, Django, and/or FastAPI
  • - Deep experience with PostgreSQL and full AWS infrastructure (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, SQS/SNS, Secrets Manager)
  • - Experience with Elasticsearch and Redis/Celery
  • - Working familiarity with React
  • - Comfortable using AI-augmented coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex) as part of daily workflow
  • - Available to overlap with 9am-5pm Eastern Time
